MOOV 2002

Mexico - Quebec - New York
June 15 - June 16, 2002
White Box, 525 West 26th Street, New York

Overview

The 2002 MOOV media arts festival featured new video and performance work by emerging artists from Quebec, New York, and Mexico at White Box, a gallery and performance space in New York's West Chelsea gallery district.

The two-day exhibition was organized in collaboration with emerging curators and artists from Mexico and Quebec and featured works by 72 video, sound, and performance artists from New York (18 artists), Quebec (17 artists) and Mexico (37 artists).

Programs presented included a collaboratively produced Exquisite Corpse video project that featured the work of 13 artists from each region; 4 curated video programs representing work from each region; sound and video mixing performances by artists Arthur Henry Fork (Mexico), Women With Kitchen Appliances and DJ Scrap (Quebec), Damian Catera, Tarikh Korula and Paul Chan, and Charmaine Wheatley (New York); video installations by New York artists Lisa DiLillo, Tali Hinkis and Sharon Paz; and two discussions on media arts and international collaboration with several of the visiting artists and audience members.

A preview of the Exquisite Corpse program was presented in cooperation with the Mexican Cultural Institute and hosted by Arts International on June 12, with a discussion on cross border collaboration with the project organizers and several artists. An 84-page tri-lingual catalogue was produced that featured introductory text by the project collaborators, program information, and biographies of participating artists.
