MOOV 2003

Three evenings of international video screenings and performances
November 8, November 15, and November 22, 2003
Remote Lounge, 327 Bowery, New York, NY

Overview

The 2003 MOOV media arts festival featured new media arts and performance work by international artists at Remote Lounge, a multi-media presentation space in New York's East Village. The programs feature 32 short video and film productions by 31 artists and groups from 13 countries and 8 U.S. states, presented in 3 distinct compilation programs each roughly one-hour in length. Each program was followed by an audio/visual performance. Programs included Independent Exposure US Edition 2003, Digital Convergence, and Star City.

Independent Exposure US Edition 2003, a touring program from Microcinema International - an independent curating, distribution, and exhibition organization of independent films, videos, and digital art - that featured new works from 14 film and video makers from 8 U.S. states. The screening was followed by a live music performance by Teleseen.

Digital Convergence featured work from 9 European-based artists and groups, curated by Norwegian video artist HC Gilje. The video program explored the relationship between the visual and audio aspects of the medium. In a post-screening live video improvisation performance, Gilje collaborated with New York audio artist oblaat.

Star City featured 8 international video artists that use Hong Kong as a backdrop to explore urban space. Star City was curated by Elaine Ng and Videotage (Hong Kong), a media artist collective based dedicated to supporting innovative media artists. The screening was followed by an improvisational audio/visual performance by burun featuring audio recently collected in Hong Kong. A 12-page catalogue was produced that featured program information and biographies of the participating artists.
